The Patek Philippe Advance Research Program is a representation of avante-garde watchmaking for the future as its goal is to ensure greater precision within mechanical watches by the application of silicon. In total there have been 5 references released by Patek Philippe from the Advanced Research Program since 2005, and the pictured reference 5650, introduced in 2017, was the latest iteration from the collection. Made in association to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Aquanaut family, the 5650 features a Spiromax hairspring of Silivnar and furthermore features a never-before-seen time zone setting mechanism shown at 9 o’clock, that reduces the subgroup from its conventional 37 component to 17 and while it does not require lubricant to operate.
