Puzzled by this Submariner-looking Day-Date? Don’t be! The present watch was made to custom specifications by the original owner, who requested to have a dial made in the Submariner-style with a black matte finish and luminous dots and baton numerals. The signature is painted in white and the luminous Mercedes hands are usually found on sports model and never on a Day-Date. The current example is also completely crafted of white gold, also a result of the customization. Delivered to the original owner in 1969, the watch has been serviced by Rolex on four different occasions from the 1970s to 1990s and on the 30th of March 2017, was completely overhauled by Rolex in Geneva. When it was first seen on the market in 2017, the watch caused quite a stir amongst collectors, and Sotheby’s is proud to present this watch in the coming Hong Kong Flagship sale.
