Since the mid-eighteen century, the name Leroy has been associated with the finest French timepieces and very little is still known about the wristwatches that they produced in the 1930's and 40's. Only one other piece from the same period seems to have appeared in an international auction in the last 15 years... The present example has a large 36 mm gold case with a hinged back and cuvette. The case number is present inside the caseback and repeated on the back of the cuvette, while the front bears the famous Parisian signature and a second number. It protects a nicely finished gilt movement. The dial is beautifully made with large Breguet numerals and a engine-turned centerfold with the L. Leroy & Cie signature highlighted in a cartouche. Th...
