When Seiko celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2011, it did so in style by turning to the first-ever Grand Seiko grandseikoofficial, the ref. 3180 of 1960, for inspiration. Precisely reproducing the vintage original, the anniversary editions were offered in gold or steel – as well as the rarest and most desirable guise, platinum. Only 130 examples of the anniversary edition in platinum were produced in a subtle reference to the vintage original, of which only a handful are known in platinum. While the anniversary edition is almost a like-for-like remake – even the platinum buckle is a replica of the vintage original - it brings to the table modern enhancements like the 9S64 movement with a three-day power reserve and a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.
