Watches made by the celebrated jewellery and glass maker René Lalique are incredible rarities, with only a handful documented today. This extraordinary Art Nouveau watch adorned with ‘pâte de verre’ (glass paste) decoration was made in 1900. The gold case is pierced with trumpet flowers and a rhinoceros beetle - a favourite motif of Lalique’s - to reveal a rich red enamelled cuvette to the back (2nd image).
