This magnificent pear-shaped pocket watch is the work of British watchmaker William Ilbery, who was active in London from 1780 to the mid-1840s. Best known for producing luxury watches for the Chinese market, Ilbery favoured pieces of Swiss manufacture with the traditional duplex escapement, as is seen in this timepiece. The gold frame is inset with alternating shaped sections of moss agate and striated carnelian, whilst its bezel is set with seed pearls and two red guilloché enamel escutcheons above. The pendant, bow and finial are also intricately decorated with polychrome champlevé and guilloché enamel geometric and foliate motifs. From the Masterworks of Time collection, this striking piece will be offered in the George Daniels, Visionary sale on July 2 in London. #SothebysWatches #MasterworksofTime #pocketwatch
