In 1982, over dinner with a collector, he was persuaded to part with it – a decision he quickly regretted. In 1988, the watch appeared for sale at Sotheby’s in Geneva where it made a then record CHF 220,000. Its appearance at our London sale on 2 July marks the first time the watch has been seen in public since then.
