During the 1960s, Tina Millar established the Watch Department at Sotheby’s London. In an inspired move, she hired George Daniels as consultant and together they were responsible for historic sales in London and Geneva.
George Daniels started out as a watcher restorer, but quickly proved to be a remarkable inventor. In his creation of the Millennium wristwatch, Daniels produced a 20th Century horological icon. The dial is a perfect combination of form and function in the quintessential Daniels style, clearly influenced by the aesthetic of his pocket watches.
The present lot made in 1999 is one of only 47 yellow gold examples ever produced. It comes from the collection of the original owner, Tina Millar, marking the deep, long-time friendship between Daniels and herself. This rare timepiece will be offered as part of our
#London Watches sale on September 25.
