Lee Krasner’s 'Lame Shadow', 1955, belongs to a series by the artist that has rarely been seen in public. Executed on top of paintings from the artist's 1951 exhibition at Betty Parsons Gallery, New York, Krasner reinvented and reimagined her previous paintings through collage. Inspired by Henri Matisse’s paper collages and the Cubist compositions of her predecessors, Krasner creates depth and abstraction in this mixed media masterwork.
Lame Shadow', 1955, is currently on view at 450 Park Avenue ahead of being offered in our New York 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale this November.
