One of the most unique works to be offered in our Important Design Sale this Thursday is Shigeru Uchida’s ‘Gyo-an’ tearoom from 1993. Made of Japanese cedar and bamboo, and pictured here with an Isamu Noguchi table lamp, the portable tearoom is informed by the rituals of the Japanese tea ceremony - celebrating a spirit of mindfulness by creating a modern meditative space. This Wednesday, we will host the London branch of the Japanese Urasenke Foundation from 11am to 1pm. They will perform a traditional tea ceremony, spreading knowledge of ‘Chado’ - the way of tea. It’s open to all - just stop by.
