OPENING THIS WEEK: seattleartmuseum premieres its major new exhibition, 'Figuring History'. Featuring
#RobertColescott,
#KerryJamesMarshall and
#MickaleneThomas, the exhibition reexamines the history painting genre through the artists' large-scale paintings which are distinctive in style, subject matter and in the historic movements they reference. Collectively they critique, and poignantly retell, the narratives of history and representation through testimony centered on Black experience. Pictured here is Colescott's 'George Washington Carver Crossing the Delaware: Page from an American History Textbook', Marshall's 'School of Beauty, School of Culture' and Thomas' 'Le déjeuner sur l'herbe: Les trois femmes noires'. 'Figuring History' is on view beginning Thursday 15 February through 13 May.
