LDN - "I want to paint as though rushing around on a battlefield, exerting myself to collapse from exhaustion" -
#KazuoShiraga. Shiraga's 'active painting' 'Zuisoihen', 1986 (detail seen here) was made by his fastening a rope above the canvas, and then gliding over it in vigorous movements - spreading thick mounts of paint with his feet on the surface. Glorious and grotesque, you really can't capture the resulting three dimensionality of the piece on camera: come and see it in the flesh at
#PhillipsBSQ instead, where it's
#OnView as part of our
#20thCentury and
#ContemporaryArt public viewing.
