LDN - A figure to which we can all relate this #Monday: Sue Tilley posing for #LucianFreud's etching 'Woman Sleeping', 1995. Speaking on the etching, Sue says that this one came about entirely by accident: to Freud's horror, Sue got sunburnt halfway through his painting 'Sleeping by the Lion Carpet'. Having warned her that any change to her skin colour would ruin the painting, his outrage at her burnt chest led him to do an etching. Secretly thrilled to be the subject of an etching - it was Freud's tradition to share an etching with the sitter - Sue's etching hung in her home for years: along with another, 'Woman with an Arm Tattoo'. Both etchings will be on view and at auction in our Freud auction during #Frieze week at #PhillipsBSQ. Sue Tilley - a muse and friend of Freud - will give a talk ahead of the sale, and has written the catalogue introduction. Public viewing begins October 9.
