#HansJWegner’s Rare long 'Dolphin' folding armchair from 1950 is highlighted in our
#NordicDesign auction on 1 October.
The ‘Dolphin’ armchair was a continuation of
#Wegner’s 1949 'Folding' chair, building on the rational perfection of this iconic chair whilst adding a sense of playfulness.
The 'Dolphin' chairs do not simply convey movement—here specifically the lyricism and speed of a dolphin in water— but they express it in their capacity to transform for transport and storage. The folding chairs designed by Wegner reflect his continued interest in flexibility and furniture’s adaptability to human forms and needs, topics he would explore throughout his career as he refined the expression of his ideas and values through furniture.
