Well, well, well, what do we have here?
The victim, a porcupine as per quills and skull.
When? The time it rained last, nearly two weeks ago, because the tracks are in hardened mud.
What happened? Clearly a porcupine got killed but there are a lot of tracks.
But a lion was the culprit, as the tracks are present and indicate a scuffle, including the chasing off of a hyena.
But because these tracks are so big, bigger than all the lions that we know of in the Lower Zambezi, the culprit had to be “Ginger” whose reign has passed as he is now very old and nearing the end of his life.
How can we prove it? Photographic evidence, a mugshot, with a quill stuck in his face and then a few days later with it removed. Phew.
