As many of you know cancer was and still is a huge part of my life. Today is #NationalRareDiseaseDay and it is a day that I am choosing to speak about my experience with a rare leukemia (APL). As more research comes to light there is no question that lives are put at risk everyday due to biases of medical professionals. I went to multiple doctors before anyone took my symptoms seriously. By the time I arrived at the hospital that diagnosed me, I had days left to live. Pay attention to your body. Listen to what your body needs. Keep searching for answers when doctors aren't listening to you. You are worth fighting for. It is by no means easy to be your own advocate but you are so worth it. If ever you find yourself in need of support or lost as to how to be your own advocate, please feel free to reach out to me!
