"You have cancer" The three words that changed my life and who I am. When I was first told I had cancer, I didn't know when or if I'd ever be cancer free. Five months to the day, my mom came into our room and told me "Emily, Dr. Inaba just told me that YOU ARE CANCER FREE." That day was September 7th, 2016. One year ago. I wish I could tell you that that was the end of my journey with cancer. I am not even sure that this particular journey will ever be over. I can tell you that I am blessed enough that a cancer cell hasn't been found in my blood since. Instead of worrying about what the future may hold, I'd rather think about right now. I like to think about the fact that I don't have cancer, that I'm kicking butt at this whole "new normal" thing, and that I am working day in and day out for the kids that have yet to or will never hear those beautiful words, "you are cancer free".
