In 2018 wildlife DP Ester de Roij was on Vancouver Island shooting a sequence on black bears for a series called ‘Canada: A Year in the Wild.’ She only had a limited amount of time with the bears as they only come out at low tide, and she had to negotiate tourist boats as well as sharp oyster banks. For this, she had to source a camera for long lens work at very short notice and ended up opting for an older RED camera with a Sigma 150-600. Despite its age, the quality of the footage held up great alongside footage shot on newer camera models used on the rest of the series. Several shoots later in 2019, in Canada's Algonquin National Park, de Roij embarked on a mission to document snapping turtles laying eggs. The turtles were late to arrive, so the shoot had to be extended a few days. Luckily they showed up, but so did the mosquitos!
