For the project, the team relied primarily on RED #GEMINI5K, #KOMODO, and #DRAGON6K. The lowlight capabilities of the GEMINI sensor allowed Masters to film at high frame rates with long lenses that were F11+, which was critical for many of the fight and predation scenes in the movie. The long pre-record times of the DSMC2 also allowed them to be selective with recording, which saved a ton of media, time, and money in the edit. The high dynamic range gave a lot of flexibility in the color studio and allowed them to use clips that contained awesome behaviors but weren't shot at the best exposure due to the crazy nature of filming wildlife in the field.
