⁣⁣ It's always funny to us to see this photo of a "cowboy" (buckarooshooter) in our submersible. This is when we were shooting at the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts, a national monument in the Atlantic Ocean (the only one). The whole Eastern Continental Shelf is ribbed with these massive canyons, but these ones have the bonus of three seamounts (underwater mountains) nearby, which are just a magnet for life. The area is really abundant, and absolutely wonderful for deep-sea science or filming. Unfortunately, we didn't get many dives in on this trip because Hurricane Florence was whipping the Atlantic into a frenzy. So, people spent a lot of time trying to amuse themselves. Ivan brought this toy with him called the Cowboy Yo-Yo. It's a ball on a rope and you have to flick it just so it makes a knot. People were obsessed with it. They'd spend days trying to figure it out. Then when you got a knot in the rope, you got your name engraved on the Cowboy Yo-Yo. ⁣ ⁣ Thanks to reddigitalcinema...
