This Day in Union History: October 10, 1933
After 75% wage cut, 18,000 cotton workers in California went on strike. They were evicted from their homes and refused access to food. On this day four were shot and killed by ranchers. The Cannery and Agricultural Workers’ Industrial Union (CAWIU) accepted a pay increase and ended the strikes later that month.
