In honor of #WorldWetlandsDay, join us in celebrating these incredible ecosystems alongside the awesome surfing from day one at the the Lexus #PipePro. 🌾 🌊 Given the importance of wetlands, we were excited to support North Shore Community Land Trust in removing invasive grasses from one of their pilot loʻi kalo wetland taro patches and plant taro with surfers and #WSLOneOcean volunteers. Wetlands are valuable ecosystems as they: 🌴 Protect coasts against flooding and erosion 🪷 Are biodiversity hotspots 🌎 Capture carbon 🦆 Provide optimal habitat for many species 🪸 Filter sediment to minimize pollution 💧 Are a source of food, water quality improvement, and livelihood for local communities 🌀 Slow down and spread out water flow across the landscape, allowing more water to percolate back into the soil and recharge our aquifers.
