#BillabongProPipeline. 🌾🌊
Given the importance of wetlands, we were excited to work with
@northshorecommunitylandtrust to remove invasive grasses from one of their pilot loʻi kalo, wetland taro patch, and plant taro with surfers and
#WeAreOneOcean volunteers. Wetlands are valuable ecosystems as they:
🌴 Protect coasts against flooding and erosion
🪷 Are biodiversity hotspots
🌎 Capture carbon
🦆 Provide optimal habitat for many species
🪸 Filter sediment to minimize pollution of nearshore reefs
💧 Are a source of food, water quality improvement, and livelihood for local communities
🌀 Slow down and spread out water flow across the landscape, allowing more water to percolate back into the soil and recharge our aquifers.
