Restoration of marine and coastal habitats can provide a range of ecological and socio-economic benefits, such as coastal protection from flooding and erosion, water quality improvements, and carbon sequestration and storage. . Mālama Pūpūkea-Waimea is a grassroots conservation restoration team working to replenish and sustain the natural and cultural resources of the Pūpūkea and Waimea ahupua‘a -- a Hawaiian term for a large traditional socioeconomic, geologic, and climatic subdivision of land -- for present and future generations through active community stewardship, education and partnership.
