According to Palauan fishers, this has had a positive impact on their ability to sustainably harvest from the sea for local consumption. . The ocean is the lifeblood of Palauans. Their culture is deeply connected to the biodiversity found within the coastlines, coral reefs and deep sea that surrounds their islands, and over centuries, they have developed strategies to safeguard their resources. .
