They are members of a small-scale fishing community in Vietnam. They each rely on the ocean for their health, wellbeing, and resilience. With the nutritional security Em Thao gets from eating essential protein and minerals from the fish her father catches, or the wages Chị Hanh earns through mending fishing nets, or Chu Ba’s sense of place and cultural identity tied to the sea where he keeps his retirement fund as fish, knowing he will always have food to eat or fish to sell for a modest profit.
