Almost half of our solid waste produced globally is organic or biodegradable.🤯 For most of us day to day, it’s our food waste. When dumped in a landfill, it emits methane which is a greenhouse gas and worsens climate change. But when composted properly, that organic material can be used as a plant fertilizer, helping regenerate the soil, and, store carbon.
•
Tips:
1. Reduce your food waste! Plan your shopping, only buy what you need when shopping and avoid over-ordering when out to eat.
•
2. Depending on where you live, participate in your municipal compost collection, find a community composting program, or if you have a yard, compost at home.
•
3. Learn more about how important composting is and if your community doesn’t have access to composting, tell your elected officials.
