Sometimes we overlook the routine and the everyday. It might be sounds you hear at a local coffee shop during breakfast, the ticking of a clock, or street lights that turn on as evening approaches. Singapore visual artist Yang Jie draws attention to these occurrences around us with Sensory Anchors, his installation at the Esplanade Community Wall. We caught up with him for a quick Q&A. • Q: What do you think is the most underappreciated item we use daily?  A: The lightbulb: taken for granted until it burns out. And even after it does, we go out of our way to dispose it and find a replacement. • Q: What's one household item you wish could be permanently automated? A: My interest is more about the little gestures and subconscious habits that people perform, such as tapping their fingers on the table while waiting for their meals, shaking their legs while perched on a chair, etc. So perhaps a dishrag that endlessly polishes one single spot on a table top! • #esplanade #mydurian #esplanade...
