This is the rarely seen ritual theatre that originates from Kerala, India called Mudiyettu. It's based on a legend in which demon Darika challenged Kali, the goddess of death and destruction to a duel. Mudi refers to the headgear of Kali, with her terror-inspiring face, made of wood or metal. This rare treat is one of the reasons why we love Kalaa Utsavam, our Indian festival of the arts.
