#OnThisDay on 12 Sep 1937, the grandfather of Malay songs in Southeast Asia, Mohd Noor Mohd Yusofe, better known as Yusnor Ef, was born. Many also call him Cikgu (Malay for "teacher"), a sign of the respect he commands through his long and illustrious career not only as a lyricist but also as an educator, author and scriptwriter. He penned the lyrics to more than 250 songs, set to the music of P. Ramlee (his mentor who gave Yusnor his stage name), Kassim Masdor and Zubir Said.
