#OnThisDay on 4 Sep in 1985, Singapore writer and playwright Stella Kon’s Emily of Emerald Hill was performed in Singapore for the first time. Debuting at the Singapore Drama Festival at the old Drama Centre at Fort Canning, it was directed by Max Le Blond and starred Margaret Chan as the iconic titular Peranakan matriarch, and moved many audience members to tears.
