#OnThisDay on 24 Aug 1956, veteran Singapore singer-songwriter Dick Lee was born. He went on to tell his Life Story at 18, mused about Life in the Lion City at 27, created a Fried Rice Paradise at 30, and became The Mad Chinaman at 33. In this photo, 18-year-old Dick performs at Rediffusion Singapore 丽的呼声's Ready, Steady, Folk singing contest. He wanted to take part but was so good that Vernon Cornelius, the show's organiser, made him a regular performer on the show instead. The rest, as they say, is history. Happy birthday Dick!
