Meet Phyllis Kaplowitz, Boston College’s Executive Chef of Campus Dining. Phyllis supports all of our culinary teams across campus, including all main dining units, markets, catering, and concessions! Phyllis began working for BC in 2019 after a career in the culinary industry, eager to try working in education. “I’d never worked in education prior to BC,” she said. “It’s such a large scope, and we have a tremendous opportunity to be creative here.” After graduating college, Phyllis worked in restaurants around Boston, forming friendships and making connections with front-of-the-house management. Before long, Phyllis asked to go “behind the line,” learning to cook from her colleagues at Jacob Wirth, Boston’s Oldest restaurant. “Eventually, I wanted to become classically trained,” said Phyllis. “When I told my boss at the time I was going to leave for school, he ended up sponsoring my education.
