In December 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. launched the Poor People's Campaign, spotlighting systemic racism and poverty in America. His vision resonated deeply with Memphis sanitation workers, who faced dire conditions. Following the tragic deaths of Robert Walker and Echol Cole on Feb 1, 1968, over 1,300 workers walked out. James Lawson, a community leader, reached out to Dr. King, urging solidarity. Dr. King accepted his invitation and made it to Memphis TN on March 18, 1968. It was said when he arrived at Mason Temple to address the crowd, the atmosphere was electric!
