India Celebrates Holi Festival 2024 From New Delhi to Kolkata, see how the vibrant festival of colors was celebrated this year in India. Holi marks the arrival of spring with joyous gatherings, colorful powders, and a spirit of unity and renewal, and is one of the main Hindu festivals celebrated across India and abroad. Participants dance and throw powders and water at one another. The Holi powder or Gulal was traditionally made from flowers and spices; today, many are synthetic. Each color has a meaning; for example, green signifies new beginnings, and red symbolizes love, marriage, and fertility. Holi’s history is associated with several mythological stories, with one prominent narrative celebrating the love between the Hindu deities Krishna and Radha.
