THROWBACK THURSDAY! Carrie Pittee and Daughter Izah — You May not recognize this woman immediately, but if you’ve been on one of our ghost tours at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, you definitely know of her. The woman in this photo is Carrie Hutchinson née Pittee. Hezekiah Pittee and his family had moved down from Maine to oversee the construction of our current lighthouse. Unfortunately, during the construction process, a horrible tragedy occurred that resulted in the death of two of Carrie’s sisters, Mary and Eliza, as well as another girl. Carrie was the only one who survived, and the Pittee family moved back to Maine after the accident. Carrie went on to marry Adelbert Hutchinson and have a daughter, Izah Estilla.
