My name is Leland Yu, I am a former NYC line cook, aspiring endurance athlete, and I am currently operating a pop-up restaurant called Mr. Lee’s in Red Hook, Brooklyn. RunforChinatown is an ongoing series of charity runs that I started last year to fundraise for struggling businesses and organizations in my hometown neighborhood of Chinatown, Manhattan, but it also serves as a platform to challenge my physical and mental limits. The first fundraiser was a 12-hour running challenge that I embarked on May 1st 2020, and I got friends and family to donate $1/mile that I covered. Final tally was 61.6 miles with about $25,000 raised. Since then, I have done a second 12-hour challenge, the Lunar New Year Bridgeathon (seven laps around the Brooklyn & Manhattan bridges, and the Virtual United NYC Half Marathon).
