I had a great time visiting Vlad this week for a signing, but it was so much more meaningful than that for me. . For those of you who don't know his story... Vlad was a member of the 1997 Stanley Cup winning Red Wings and the infamous "Russian Five". Less than a week after raising Lord Stanley, he was involved in a limousine accident which resulted in serious head injuries, paralysis, and a coma. Although his career was cut short, he continues to be celebrated amongst fans and the team (e.g. no player has worn #16 for the Wings since). . Though he has made tremendous strides in his recovery, he still experiences many cognitive and physical difficulties. DESPITE THESE DIFFICULTIES, he still took the time to meet us, shake our hands, talk about the old times, and sign autographs.
