It’s called PJ1, VHT and the sticky stuff, but it’s most commonly known as traction compound. Typically, NASCAR sprays PJ1 in the corners in an attempt to create grip for multi-groove racing. PJ1 makes grip at the price of less entertaining racing, as cars drive significantly easier through the grip. Indycar however doesn't like to find PJ1 on track: with those cars it just doesn't work, or worse, makes the car harder to drive. Also, it fails to create a valid second line for racing.
