NASCAR departed after two years and the circuit was in danger of losing its CART race too. Carl Haas was given a long-term contract to organise all racing activity. He was able to save the race and begin a series of improvements. Shortly after Haas took over, a new front stretch wall was installed and the structures received a fresh look. The CART race was a success, with 43,000 spectators on the grandstands. NASCAR's Busch Series returned in 1993, followed by the new Craftsman Truck Series in 1995. The oval track was resurfaced in 1996 and the pit lane exit was improved. This slightly widened the turns. The IRL re-measured the track in 2004, and it resulted in 1.015-miles. NASCAR instead continued to use the sheer one mile measures. Then, in 2004 the road course was widened and resurfaced to host testing, driver training and kart racing.
