The 2008 Firestone Indycar Japan 300 was the third round of the 2008 Indycar Series season. The race has been a delayed of 24 hours due to track conditions, over 10'000 gallons were removed. Hélio Castroneves started on the pole in a field composed by only 18 cars. The start of the race saw a major upset with Marco Andretti, he went loose into the wall of Turn 1 due to cold tires, crashing out of the race immediately. The caution stayed out until lap 7, where Castroneves held the lead at the restart without any changements, apart from Dan Wheldon passing Kanaan. On lap 47, Marty Roth brought out the second caution with a crash in turn 4. Hideki Mutoh spun off while the pace car was coming out of the pits, almost crashing into it and Kanaan. On the restart, Castroneves led over Dixon, Wheldon, Kanaan and Briscoe. On lap 90, caution came out due to another crash, caused by Vitor Meira. He then pulled off and retired.
