The AMR INDYCAR Safety Team, founded in 1996, is comprised of approximately 40 members, who fill different roles of the emergency rescue system. Considered the best one in racing competitions, this is one of the few travelling safety teams in motorsport. Travelling with the series between one event and another allows INDYCAR’s safety crew to have familiarity with the medical history of each driver. Each member of the staff can therefore have a knowledge of whether the drivers have sustained a prior injury, or their ability of getting themselves out of the car after a crash. From this point of view, it really helps knowing the cars and the drivers. Even the emergency response differs from that deployed in European competitions.
