The second race at the Iowa circuit maintained the same ingredients as race 1, with the addition of 50 laps for a total of 300.
Team Penske seemed to be in total control of the race once again, first with Power and then, from lap 84, with Newgarden, who was able to overtake the Australian. No one seemed to be able to stop the ace from Nashville, who was ready for an encore in Iowa, his backyard, until lap 236 when his right suspension suddenly collapsed, sending him into the barriers. At this point, with the group compacted by the Pace car and without Newgarden in the lead, the race was open to any outcome.
The winner in the end resulted being the Mexican O'Ward (second win of the season for him), ahead of the Australian Will Power (once again just a step away from victory in Iowa) and the other Penske driver Scott McLaughlin.
