The streets of Toronto Exhibition Place once a year become the second most popular race in Canada, losing only to the F1 Canadian Grand Prix. Toronto has been a yearly venue since 1986, cancelled only in 2009, 2020 and 2021. In 2022, the race is coming back!
Proposals for a track in the west area of Toronto were analyzed in the mid-1970s, but never realized. After Montreal succeeded to host F1, the competition between the two cities convinced Toronto to build a racetrack. At the same time, IndyCar was abandoning the hated Sanair race track, and so Toronto was included in the schedule as a replacement.
The track surrounds the Exhibition Centre. Despite being a street circuit, smooth roads and wide corners offer a flowing layout in a spectacular scenery.
Actually that wasn’t the first track at the Exhibition Place: since 1952, the stadium hosted a paved oval, gathering some success and hosting a NASCAR race in 1958, where Richard Petty debuted and his father Lee Petty won. The track ...
