Indycar went many times to Northern Canada, and precisely in Alberta, and most precisely in one specific city: Edmonton. The Edmonton Indy was a race held at a circuit in the Edmonton City Centre Airport. Racing in airports is quite common in North America, still today the St. Petersburg Grand Prix uses an airport as part of the track, but Edmonton was quite singular in its shape: fast and bending left to right continuously: not what you would expect from an airport. It was formerly a round of the Champ Car World Series, integrated into the 2008 IndyCar Series after the two series merged. The inaugural race was held in 2005 and featured a title sponsor until 2010. Octane Motorsports Events, promoter of the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, took over as the new promoter in 2010. That same year, however, a taxiway that the racetrack featured was demolished, so a new layout had to be pulled out.
