After the round in Road America, Marcus Ericsson (Chip Ganassi Racing) took the lead of the championship back from Will Power (Team Penske), who had previously conquered it with a successful win in Detroit.
Aided by Power’s disappointing result at the
#SonsioGP, Ericsson managed to come back at the top after conquering his third podium of the season and extending his lead to 293 points. This comes thanks also to the 109 points gained with the win of the 2022 Indy 500, which awards double points differently from all the other races on the calendar.
Power currently comes second, with 266 points, having collected only a 19th place in ROA due to a contact with Devlin De Francesco at the beginning of the race.
Just a few points behind comes the two-time NTT IndyCar series champion, Josef Newgarden (Team Penske), winner of the last round. He is also the only driver having racked up more than one win this season (at Texas Motor Speedway, Long Beach and, ultimately, Road America).
