Road America stands today as one of the longest permanent road courses in the USA, being also one of the fastest and maybe the most spectacular. The track opened in 1955 and never changed its main layout (apart from a new chicane for moto races). The 4-mile 14 turns course lies on a 640-acre, park-like ground, which offers amazing spots for spectators. The track starts with a long, flat straight that ends with a long, slow, corner. The following downhill section and a flat-out turn 2 help in building speed again before turn 3. Then the fastest section of the track: a very long right turn, Moraine Sweep, leads to another downhill where a little bend to the left introduces turn 5, a 90 degrees corner preceded by a heavy braking zone, ideal for overtakes. Then, uphill to another 90 degrees corner, a fast right bend and another downhill, Hurry Downs, towards turn 8.
