Opening the patrol of the seven rookies taking part in the 2022 Indianapolis 500 we find in the third row, ninth place, former Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean. The 2011 GP2 Series champion is currently undertaking his second season in Indycar, but this year he will compete on ovals as well, having now recovered from the consequences of the terrible accident he suffered in Bahrain in 2020. Three positions behind the French driver in the rookie standings we find another motorsport veteran: we are talking about 46-year-old Jimmie Johnson, seven times winner of the NASCAR title. In spite of the difficulties encountered on the road-courses, the American has always proved to be fast on the ovals. Right behind, 13th, is 20-year-old Lithuanian with U.S. passport David Malukas, vice champion of Indy Lights 2021, the so-called "F2 of Indycar."
