In order to enjoy the weekend of the historical Indy 500, let’s give first a proper look to its symbols and traditions, which have made it one of motorsport’s milestones throughout the years. 1. The race always takes place before the last Monday of May, the Memorial Day in the US, a day to commemorate the fallen among the American army. As a matter of fact, lots of national ceremonies are carried out throughout the weekend. 2. For long time, the Indy 500 was the only race to be held in the US in May. No other racing competitions were allowed, as to recognize the historical value of this race. 3. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the fastest circuit in the world, with also the highest capacity (135.000 spectators are to be expected this year). 4.
