Jumping high and breaking barriers. #50Days50Moments London, 1948: USA's #AliceCoachman (1923-2014) sets an #Olympics high jump record with a leap of 5 feet 6 1/8 inches on her way to becoming the first-ever black woman to win an Olympic #GoldMedal. She was also the only American woman to take gold in any track & field event that year. Coachman, like so many other athletes, was forced to wait until the 1948 games to compete because of World War II which caused the cancelation of the Olympics in both 1940 and 1944.
